The Lauderdale County Highway Department has maintenance PAID
responsibility for 495 miles of road – including 100 miles of Pontiac, IL
gravel roads – as well as 250 bridges. The Department’s work Permit No. 592
ranges from picking up limbs to bridge construction, and its new Cat® 926M Wheel Loader stays
busy, says Highway Commissioner Derek Kissell.
“The 926M is used to load trucks with washed rock, and like our other Cat machines, it’s used nearly
every day,” Kissell reports. “It replaced an 18-year old loader – we have a major initiative underway
to replace aging equipment.
“We often have different operators on our loaders on different days,” he continues. “They all like
the 926M’s ease of operation and automatic controls.”
Ease of serviceability and Cat dealer support are other important considerations, says Kissell. “Our
goal is to go to all one brand of equipment, for servicing efficiency. Our dealer’s parts and service
has been great – we utilize both their shop and field service.”
