         MARCH 3-6 – CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION FOR PUBLIC WORKS: Overview of Construction Inspection,
         Pre-Project Preparation, Communication & Documentation, Risk Management & Legal Issues, Project Close-Out Procedures,
         Regulatory Overview, Earthwork Land Use Issues, Earthwork General Construction, Soil Characteristics, Excavation & Confined Space
         Issues, Water Line Construction, Sewer Line Construction, Storm Drain Construction, Concrete Construction, Roadway & Surface
         Construction
         INTENDED FOR: Any Public Works department personnel. Even if the City and/or the contractor typically uses third party inspection,
         it is always best if city personnel are familiar with inspections when it comes to infrastructure that will belong to the city. Public Works
         department personnel making inspections will always place the municipality’s best interests first. This class will be of value to either
         the beginner or the experienced inspector. Operations and maintenance personnel will also benefit by gaining a better understanding
         of the infrastructure that they work with. Any infrastructure project that the city will inherit should never be treated as a turnkey project
         where the Public Works department is not involved until they assume the maintenance and operations responsibilities.

         MAY 12-15 – MAINTENANCE TECHNOLOGIES FOR PUBLIC WORKS: Work Zone Safety, Excavation
         Safety, Confined Spaces Safety, Public Works Math 101, Pavement Maintenance, Concrete Maintenance, Map & Plans Reading,
         Introduction to Surveying Instruments, Heavy Equipment Operation Training & Safety, Right-of-Way Maintenance
         INTENDED FOR: Public Works employees interested in developing the technical skills required for roadway maintenance. Good
         candidates for this class include construction workers, equipment operators, and crew leaders or foremen. The class focuses on
         safety in the work zone, including equipment operation, confined spaces, and excavation. Instructors will also provide insight into the
         behavior and application of materials that Public Works employees use each day, like concrete and asphalt. Employees who are on the
         ground and out in the field will learn the best practices for operating safely and efficiently within the right-of-way. Other class topics
         include an overview of land surveying instruments, as well as plans and blueprint reading.

         JULY 7-10 – BASIC SUPERVISION FOR PUBLIC WORKS: Personality Types and How They Affect the
         Workplace, Nature of Supervision, Qualities of Leadership, Why Supervisors Must Be Good Communicators, Organizing & Planning,
         Effective Delegation, Nature of Change, Challenges in the Work Place, Developing Effective Employees & Work Teams
         INTENDED FOR: Public Works professionals who are transitioning into leadership roles. This course serves as an essential foundation
         for individuals who have recently been promoted to a supervisory position for the first time, as well as those who are preparing for
         future advancement into supervisory roles within the next few years. The program focuses on equipping participants with the core
         skills, knowledge, and practical tools needed to effectively manage teams, communicate expectations, handle workplace challenges,
         and foster a productive and safe work environment. This class should help aspiring supervisors build confidence and competence as
         they take on greater responsibility in their organizations

         NOVEMBER 3-6 – LEADERSHIP & ADMINISTRATION FOR PUBLIC WORKS: Public Works Risk
         Management, Budgeting & Cost Accounting, Basic Purchasing Procedures & Specifications, Communication Skills & Customer
         Service, Organization & Planning, Effective Delegation, Developing Employees & Work Teams, Pavement Management, Fleet
         Maintenance, and Facilities Maintenance, and more
         INTENDED FOR: Public Works professionals who are already supervising staff or managing programs and are ready to deepen their
         leadership, communication, budgeting, and administrative skills. This course is best suited for managers, deputy directors, and
         directors who want practical, real-world training tailored to Public Works operations in Tennessee. (New or first-time supervisors are
         encouraged to begin with the TPWI Basic Supervision Class before advancing into Leadership & Administration to ensure a strong
         foundation in essential supervisory skills.)


         Classes begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday and end by noon on Friday. Location: TAUD Training Station
           840 Commercial Court, Murfreesboro. Hotel is the DoubleTree – 1850 Old Fort Pkwy., Murfreesboro
         FULL REGISTRATION: APWA Members $495 – Non-Members $545
