Middle TN Branch Meets via Zoom in June By Klair Kimmey
The Middle Tennessee Branch held what Regina Santana,
Branch Director, hopes will be their last Zoom-style
meeting, on Wednesday, June 9. There were 23 attendees
present for the program titled, Diversity and Inclusion: No
One Size Fits All.
Kimberly Strong, Chattanooga Public Information
Specialist and APWA Diversity and Inclusion Committee
Chairman, shared information about the work of the
national committee and how the Tennessee Chapter can be
more aware of these issues in their meetings, outreach and
communications.
Strong shared the mission of the Diversity and Inclusion
Committee – To foster the inclusion, participation and
equitable treatment of APWA members without regard to
gender or gender identity, race, national origin, religion,
age, sexual orientation, physical or cognitive ability, political
affiliation, or family, marital or economic status. To provide
resources to public works professionals to further increase
awareness of and advancing diversity and inclusion in the
workplace.
Strong shared some of the latest stats regarding
membership in APWA. The national organization has 9
regions; 63 chapters (55 in the US, 8 in Canada); and 29,340
members (as of May 2021).
It was an informative meeting and of course featured a
couple of door prizes as well.
