The department’s newest Cat® machine, a 12M3 motor grader, joins multiple Willie Cantrell, Lake
other pieces of Cat equipment in the fleet. “The grader replaced two older County Superintendent
machines,” Cantrell says. “A side-by-side comparison with other makes
showed the advantages of Cat equipment. And since we do most of our own of Highways

servicing and maintenance, the 12M3’s easy serviceability was a big factor in our purchase decision.”

Among the other Cat machines Lake County owns are a 320C excavator, a D6R dozer, a 950G wheel
loader, and a CS563E vibratory smooth drum roller.

In the busiest times of year, Lake County’s 12M3 grader is used several days each week, Cantrell
adds, and it is also an important piece of equipment to have during winter weather in the county.
“We get some sleet or snow events every winter. Sleet is the worst – we had three inches of it a few
winters ago – and you have to tackle that while it’s still falling.”
