The Fentress County Highway Department strives to provide safe roads and bridges for all people
living and traveling through their county. Additionally, they are focused on providing a safe work Permit No. 592 Pontiac, IL PAID US Postage PRSRT STD
environment for their 23 employees. Joey Reagan, who was elected Road Superintendent in
September of 2018, intends to do just that. Joey has served the people of Fentress County for 25
years and was an equipment operator prior to becoming superintendent so he knows the ins and
outs of what it takes to run a successful team.
Joey and his crew maintain 750 miles of county roads including 135 miles of gravel. They’ve been very
busy fixing many impassable roads caused by slides and washouts from the February 2019 floods.
Most recently they completed a large project, installing two 9’ wide x 55’ long culverts along Frank
Campbell Road. Reagan stated he intends to continue to grow and convert as many of the gravel roads
over to chip and tar as possible to provide a better experience for drivers in Fentress County.
Fentress County has come to rely on Caterpillar Equipment and their local dealer for service, support,
up-time, and production for all their projects. They recently added a Cat 239D3 Compact Track Loader
and 304E2 Excavator to their fleet, as well as several worktools including a brushcutter and hammer
to get the most versatility out of their machines. A 980C Wheel Loader and 130 Motor Grader round out
their equipment. Reagan says, “Our partnership with our local Caterpillar Dealership and their people
for service and support helps us deliver on our promises to the people of Fentress County.”
