The McMinn County Highway Department provides construction and maintenance to all
McMinn County roads and bridges. Crews made up of 30 plus employees and extra help from
students in the summer months carry out the daily functions of the McMinn County Highway
Department. These crews are led by Dan Evans, Highway Commissioner, pictured above on the Permit No. 592
right. Evans has been in his current role for nine years and with the McMinn County Highway Pontiac, IL PAID US Postage PRSRT STD
Department for eleven. The department maintains 800 miles of roads in McMinn County. Over
the years, their organization has grown and made significant upgrades to both their facilities
and their equipment. Thanks to the recent transportation bill, McMinn County plans to invest
3.2 million dollars into the maintenance of their county roads in the near future.
Their Cat fleet consists of a Cat 14G, 120HNA, 906M, 963, and three 306s. The 306s pictured

above play a vital role in the daily operation of the McMinn County Highway Department. Dan
Evans spoke highly of the power and performance of these 306 excavators and the capabilities
they have to help McMinn County complete their work with ease on a daily basis. When asked
why he chose Caterpillar equipment, he emphasized the quality and reputation of Caterpillar
products as well as the availability of parts. When needing a part for his 1980s model 14G, the
part was on the shelf at his local Cat dealer. Evans states, “You don’t find that anywhere else.
The service and support from the dealer is second to none.”
