as well – a ball throw and cornhole competition.
Rodeo winners are spotlighted on pages 10-11.
The field of over 70 Public Works operators (plus
bystanders) were treated to a tasty barbeque lunch
sponsored by CMI Equipment Sales.
Later Wednesday afternoon, scores of exhibitors
and vendors kicked off the Trade Show opening
in the World’s Fair Exhibition Hall, manning
the informative booths and displays. At the
Host Branch reception, kicked off by Nicholas
Bradshaw, TCAPWA President Elect, Knoxville
Mayor Indya Kincannon welcomed attendees
and vendors to the city. The eagerly anticipated
Equipment Rodeo Awards were next. The top
three rodeo winners in all six categories and
overall went home with cash prizes. The top
winner in each category received an engraved
CASE knife and bragging rights for the next year.
The City of Knoxville took home the trophy for
the Team Competition.
That evening, more than 40 attendees came to
the YP Outing at TopGolf in Farragut sponsored
by OHM. Everyone enjoyed the time together to
network, eat, drink, and swing the clubs. TopGolf
provided a unique experience for many who had
never before tried to play golf. (Thankfully no one
fell off into the net!)
Thursday: Technical Sessions, Awards and
Karaoke at Bernadette’s
Day three featured a breakfast for the vendors
and recognition of their contributions to the
Tennessee Chapter. The Conference could not
happen without our generous sponsors and
vendors. Jeffery Brown, APWA Region III
Director, spoke briefly about APWA happenings
in the region and nationally. Following breakfast,
a brief Chapter business meeting was held to
vote on the incoming officers. Mark Miller closed
the morning meeting, and the Exhibit Hall was
opened in advance of the first round of technical
sessions.
Technical sessions covered a wide variety
of topics. TCAPWA sessions included talks
on pavement management, how to access and
understand available Federal funding, NDOT
alternative delivery and rapid build programs.
SWANA topics included recent legislation
regarding waste tires, solid waste disposal and
TDOT beautification updates.
The Awards Luncheon opened with
introductions by Nicholas Bradshaw, TCAPWA
President Elect. Keith Pugh, APWA President,
took the opportunity to address the crowd and
talk about his priorities for the coming year on a
national level. Bradshaw followed by recognizing
the 2022 scholarship recipients, Wes Fortner and
Brianna Lay, who were present at the luncheon.
