CONFERENCE OVERVIEW

presentations. Award winners are featured on
pages 16, 17, and 18. Congratulations to all
of the award winners and thank you for your
contributions and service to TCAPWA.
Mark Miller gave the closing remarks and
announced the results of drawings, silent
auctions, and prize giveaways, ensuring that
many participants left with something memorable
(while contributing to a very good cause.)
Thursday evening, the conference closed out
its activities by visiting Bernadette’s/Scruffy City
Hall on historic Market Square. Everyone had
the opportunity to sample the delicious buffet,
have their caricatures drawn (in amusing cartoon
style) by sketch artists, and partake in some
Karaoke. (In fact, popular opinion held that a
certain young man from Lakeland, and UT’s John
Chlarson commanded the Karaoke mic with their
impressive renditions of favorite standards.) And
of course, everyone joined in when Rocky Top was
played. Thanks to LDA for sponsoring this well-
attended event.
Generous Fundraising and Charitable Spirits
Throughout the conference, Public Works
professionals showed amazing generosity and
community spirit with the various opportunities
for charitable giving and support for TCAPWA
scholarships. $2,000 was raised for SERTOMA
of Knoxville. Water for People hosted their silent
auction and 50/50 Split Give-A-Way. They raised
around $2,000 to help provide safe drinking water
for people in Guatemala.
Congratulations to All
Many thanks to all our sponsors and vendors,
our hosts, and the entire Conference Committee
for all their hard work. We also send thanks to all
the volunteers who helped make this conference
run smoothly. Next year: Nashville!!
