Newport Utilities has been serving East Tennessee since 1940. As a public works company, Permit No. 592
their mission is to provide world-class essential services to enhance the overall quality of life of
East Tennesseans. Two years ago, Jason Carter, a Newport Utilities employee, recognized the
opportunity to self-perform larger projects due to aging infrastructures they were encountering.
In order to maintain adequate service, Carter embraced the challenge and built Newport Utilities’
self-serving service, from the utility crew of currently three to the equipment.
Recently, Newport Utilities purchased a CAT 308 for tight areas, CAT 315 to dig deeper and handle
more weight for pipe installation, and CAT 289 compact track loader. Carter stated, “I chose CAT
equipment because I knew I could rely on it. My local CAT dealer cares how their equipment is
running. I knew if something did happen, it would be fixed in little time. I knew we would not be
out of work 2 to 3 days due to maintenance issues. That goes above and beyond.”
