METRO NASHVILLE By Rocky Robinson
Rolling Art Museum Unveiled
For the past 12 years, Metro Public Works in partnership
with Red River Waste Solutions (waste collection contractor)
has conducted an art contest among third and fourth grade
students at Metro Nashville Public Schools. The contest centers
each year around a theme related to keeping the city clean
and beautiful. The 2017 theme “Rockin’ the 3 R’s” showcased
artwork on reduce, reuse and recycle.
Over 60 children from 32 elementary schools participated
in the 2017 contest. The grand prize winners’ and all school
finalists’ artwork are then displayed on Red River’s household
waste collection trucks for the next six months as part of the
citywide campaign to promote city beautification, and waste
reduction and to help teach students about protecting the
environment.
The art contest provides a valuable opportunity to engage
the creative minds of Nashville’s students while also educating
thousands of citizens about reducing waste, the importance of
protecting our environment and keeping this great city beautiful.
On Saturday, December 9, 2017, Mayor Megan Barry,
alongside Phillip Jones, TCAPWA President Elect and Assistant
Director of Metro Public Works, elected officials and the Red
River Waste Solutions staff held the award and truck viewing
ceremony.
