TPWI Completes 15th Year

The Tennessee Public Works Institute Maintenance Technologies School – June
had a lot of participation in 2017 and will Supervision School – October
begin its 16th year in 2018. In 2017 TPWI Construction Inspection School – December
held three four-day schools including
the Maintenance Technologies for Public
Works in June which had 20 attendees
from 11 agencies and six volunteer
instructors. In October 2017, TPWI held
its Public Works Supervision School with
18 attendees from eight agencies and
five volunteer instructors. It closed out
2017 in December with its Construction
Inspection School with 15 attendees from
nine agencies and seven instructors. In
total for 2017, TPWI had 53 attendees
from 28 agencies and 18 instructors.

A big thanks goes to TPWI’s instructors
this past year. These were Ronnie
Hammonds of Kingsport (3), Loretta
Hopper of Signal Mountain (2), Bo Mills
of Germantown, Alan Sparkman of
TCA, Jake Houseright of Meade Tractor
Equipment, Calvin Clifton of Mattern
& Craig, Ken Donaldson of Columbia,
John Fox of Collierville, Matt Fasig of
Rutherford County, Dr. Heather Brown of
MTSU, John Chlarson of MTAS, and John
Calvert. And really big thanks goes to
Meade Tractor for providing the backhoe
and excavator used in the Maintenance
Technologies school and to the City
of Murfreesboro for again providing
a safe site for the equipment field
training. Another big thanks goes to Colin
Durante and Pavement Technology, Inc.
for allowing me to spend five to six weeks
each year coordinating TPWI classes and
registrations and teaching.

The success of TPWI is a result of the
volunteerism of its instructors who give
up their time to travel to Murfreesboro
and who teach and help in shortening
the learning curves of all attendees.
And of course, a very big thanks goes
to TCAPWA for providing the $10,000
annual donation used to keep registration
costs for attendees to affordable levels for
any agency.

The 2018 TPWI schools will be
determined after a survey is e-mailed to
TCAPWA members in which they will
list the three classes they would like to
see offered. Once the surveys are received
the highest three requested classes will be
scheduled.
