Conference Overview
from page 7
Educational and technical sessions ran
throughout the day, covering topics from snow
response and modernized traffic control to digital
asset management and the state’s landfill capacity.
In order to encourage attendees to stay engaged,
those attending one of the final three sessions
were entered into a drawing for a 55" TV provided
by Mattern & Craig. Ricky Colston with the city of
Chattanooga was the lucky winner. He shared that
this is the third year someone from Chattanooga
has won the TV!
The Conference Award’s Luncheon, sponsored
by Cannon & Cannon, Inc., kicked off at 11:30
a.m. (see pages 16-19 for Award Winners).
Impressive Fundraising and Charitable Spirits
As usual, throughout the conference Public
Works professionals showed amazing generosity
and community spirit with the various
opportunities for charitable giving, raising $5,000
for the Madonna Learning Center. Additionally,
Water for People hosted its silent auction and “Split
the Pot” raising a record $2,733 to help provide safe
drinking water for people around the world.
The shotgun raffle winner and silent auction
winners were announced at the end of the Awards
Luncheon. Items, from signed guitars, signed
sports equipment, and bobble heads to a Ryder
Cup golf bag, went to the highest bidders. Money
raised went to our conference charity, Madonna
Learning Center and to the Scholarship Fund.
To close things out, attendees went to Lafayette’s
Music Room in Memphis’ Overton Square for
a private party sponsored by LDA Engineering.
Participants enjoyed a delicious hot dinner buffet
as well as the hot licks of the band, Big Wheel,
rocking into the night.
Congratulations to All
Many thanks to all our hosts, our exhibitors,
sponsors and volunteers, and the entire
Conference Committee (and others) for all their
hard work. Germantown and Memphis, you did
it up RIGHT! Mark your calendars for next year:
Knoxville, October 13-15, 2026.
