First, tell us about yourself.
My passion for engineering started at
an early age. My father is an engineer.
He spent a lot of time teaching us how
to repair electronics, how cars work,
what materials to use for building,
programming, astronomy, and so much
more.
Growing up in Iraq, not many women
chose the engineering profession, but I
always knew that is what I want to do when
I grew up. When the war started, there
was a lot of devastation and destruction
all around. The civil engineers were the
ones who rebuilt the infrastructure of the
country. I remember seeing the process
of the rebuilding and how it was reviving
the cities round me. and thinking that civil
engineering is such a noble profession.
My family moved to Franklin, Tennessee
in 2008, and it has a special place in my
heart. It has been my second home since
leaving Iraq, so I take a lot of pride in every
project that I work on in this city.
How long have you worked in Public Works?
