crews maintain about 750 miles of road. Carroll
County is one of the biggest counties in the state PAID
in size, and the Highway Department’s fleet of 30+ Pontiac, IL
pieces of equipment stays busy. Permit No. 592
The department recently purchased a Cat 420F
backhoe loader and a Cat CB7 double-drum

the most used piece of equipment a road department can have. Cat backhoe loaders are very
dependable – and we get excellent service, as good as I’ve ever seen.”
He adds that when not in use, the 420F is kept on a trailer, ready to go quickly to wherever it’s needed.
The department’s new Cat machines were purchased utilizing the State of Tennessee Contract, says
Scott. “The state contract gives us a choice, and it’s easier to get approved,” he explains.
